Introduction
Some customers may experience difficulty shifting into or out of the 4WD low gear position on 2005 – 2006 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. The transfer case operation instruction card mounted on the sun visor has been revised to eliminate customer confusion about the proper sequence to shift the transfer case into or out of the 4WD low gear position.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota
Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer’s specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
- Confirm that the updated Transfer Information Label is installed on the sun visor in the vehicle.

NOTE:
The following actions WILL cause incorrect/incomplete shifting:
- Failure to depress the clutch pedal completely to activate the clutch start switch.
- Release of the clutch pedal prior to completion of transfer case shifting into or out of 4WD Low.
- Switching the 4WD control switch prior to depressing the clutch pedal.
If incorrect shifting procedure is used, move the 4WD control switch to the original position, depress the clutch pedal, and then switch the 4WD control switch to the desired 4WD position.
- If the updated Transfer Information Label is NOT installed, replace the label in the sun visor with the NEW label (card).
