1 TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAFETY (NONCOMPLIANCE) RECALL 22TA08 AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY Certain 2022 RAV4 Certain 2022 RAV4 Hybrid Certain 2022 RAV4 Prime The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Toyota. All dealership technicians performing this repair are required to successfully complete the most current version of the E-Learning course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all vehicles have the repair performed correctly; technicians performing this recall repair are required to currently have completed all of the following courses: • T623 – Toyota Electrical Circuit Diagnosis Always check which technicians can perform the repair by logging on to https://www.uotdealerreports.com. It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians that have completed the above courses to perform this repair. Carefully review your resources, the technician skill level, and ability before assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician days off and vacation schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to perform this repair at all times 2 OPERATION FLOW CHART No further action required Not Involved Involved No Interference Verify Vehicle Eligibility1. CHECK VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN ELIGIBILITY a) Compare the vehicles VIN to the VIN listed on the Repair Order to ensure they match. b) Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Campaign, and that it has not already been completed. NOTICE: TMNA warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not affected or were previously completed, even by another dealer. PREPARATION A. APPENDIX ······································································································· SECTION IX. 3 BACKGROUND 4 CHECK THE REAR OCS INSTALLED POSITION FOR INTERFERENCE OF LOWER SEAT FRAME AND SPACER 1. RECORD FRONT PASSENGER SEAT POSITION 2. ADJUST SEAT POSITION a) Slide the seat fully rearward. b) Place the seat height to its highest position. 3. DISCONNECT FRONT SEAT LOWER CUSHION SHIELD a) Raise the notch portion on the LH side of the front seat lower cushion shield to disengage it, and then disengage the guide of the RH side to disconnect the front seat lower cushion shield. DO NOT disengage the front seat lower cushion shield forcefully to avoid breakage. 4. PREPARE A LIGHT a) Set a light under the front passenger seat. 5. CHECK THE REAR OCS INSTALLED POSITION FOR INTERFERENCE OF LOWER SEAT FRAME AND SPACER a) Check if the light from under the seat can be seen all around the stopper. HINT: • If there is no interference of lower seat frame and spacer, the light can be seen all around. If there is interference, the light cannot be seen. • If you are unsure of the inspection results, go to section VII. ADJUST INNER SEAT RAIL. 5 Interference of spacer Result Action NO interference OK Go to next step Interference exists NG Inner seat rail adjustment is required. Go to VII. ADJUST INNER SEAT RAIL 6. REINSTALL FRONT SEAT LOWER CUSHION SHIELD a) Engage the guide on the RH side of front seat lower cushion shield and then engage the notch portion on the LH side to install it. 7. RESTORE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT POSITION 8. CAMPAIGN COMPLETE DO NOT engage the front seat lower cushion shield forcefully to avoid breakage. ADJUST INNER SEAT RAIL HINT: Perform this procedure only when interference is found in the previous section. 1. LOOSEN FRONT SIDE BOLT OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT INNER SEAT RAIL a) Using a T50 “TORX” socket wrench, loosen the front side bolt of the inner seat rail. 6 2. LOOSEN REAR SIDE BOLT OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT INNER SEAT RAIL a) Operate the slide and vertical power seat switch knob and move the passenger seat assembly to the frontmost position. b) Using a T50 “TORX” socket wrench, loosen the rear side bolt of the inner seat rail. 3. LOOSEN REAR OCS SENSOR NUT a) Loosen the rear OCS sensor nut of the location shown in the illustration. HINT: The width across flats of the nut is 14mm. DO NOT loosen other nuts than the one instructed. 4. ADJUST INNER SEAT RAIL a) Move the inner seat rail towards the direction of the arrows to remove the interference at the stopper. b) While keeping clearance around the stopper, tighten the rear side bolt of the inner seat rail using a T50 “TORX” socket wrench. Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf) 7 5. TIGHTEN REAR OCS SENSOR NUT a) Tighten the rear OCS sensor nut. Torque: 37 N*m (377 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) 6. RE-CHECK THE REAR OCS INSTALLED POSITION FOR INTERFERENCE OF LOWER SEAT FRAME AND SPACER a) Reference VI. CHECK THE REAR OCS INSTALLED POSITION FOR INTERFERENCE OF LOWER SEAT FRAME AND SPACER 7. REINSTALL FRONT SEAT LOWER CUSHION SHIELD a) Engage the guide on the RH side of front seat lower cushion shield and then engage the notch portion on the LH side to install it. DO NOT engage the front seat lower cushion shield forcefully to avoid breakage. 8. TIGHTEN FRONT SIDE BOLT OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT INNER SEAT RAIL a) Operate the slide and vertical power seat switch knob and move the passenger seat assembly to the rearmost position. b) Using a T50 “TORX” socket wrench, tighten the front side bolt of the inner seat rail. Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf) 9. RESTORE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT POSITION ZERO POINT CALIBRATION 1.
