Introduction

Some 2004 – 2008 model year Prius vehicles may exhibit a “squeak” type noise during vehicle startup or shutdown. This noise can be heard coming from the coolant heat storage water pump during cold ambient temperature conditions. Use the following procedure to address this condition only if the noise is confirmed to be coming from the coolant heat storage water pump.

Repair Procedure

  1. After the noise is verified to be coming from the coolant heat storage water pump, replace it with a NEW part.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model year Prius Repair Manual:

  1. Road test to verify proper operation of the coolant system.
