TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAFETY (NONCOMPLIANCE) RECALL 23TA11 LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY MODIFICATION LABEL – INCORRECT INFORMATION CERTAIN 2023 TUNDRA & TUNDRA HV MODELS The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Toyota. All dealership technicians performing this recall are required to successfully complete the most current version of the E-Learning course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all vehicles have the repair performed correctly; technicians performing this recall repair are required to currently have completed all of the following courses: -TIC206a Electrical Repair 1 It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians that have completed the above courses to perform this repair. Carefully review your resources, the technician skill level, and ability before assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician days off and vacation schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to perform this repair at all times. I. OPERATION FLOW CHART Verify Vehicle Eligibility 1. Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry Not Covered No further action required System for eligibility Covered Calculate the modified weight reduction value Apply a blank Load Carrying Capacity Modification Label and write in the modified weight reduction value Campaign completed , return the vehicle to the customer II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES • Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Safety (Noncompliance) Recall, and that it has not already been completed prior to dealer shipment or by another dealer. • TMS warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not affected or were completed by another dealer. Ill. PREPARATION A. PARTS A replacement label will need to be ordered to accommodate the changes to the vehicle weight for dealer installed accessories. The instruction below will determine if dealer installed accessories were applied. A blank label can be ordered from the Material Distribution Center (MDC). BACKGROUND Due to system errors, the subject vehicles equipped with a Toyota Genuine spray-on bedliner accessory could have received a load carrying capacity modification label that does not meet the requirements of a federal standard. A vehicle which is loaded beyond its load carrying capacity may have an increased risk of crash. V. WORK PROCEDURE 1. LOCATE THE LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY LABEL a. The yellow load carrying capacity label will be located on the BPillar, inside the driver’s door. The exact location will vary slightly by model. 3 4 2. CALCULATE UPDATED WEIGHT REDUCTION RATING TO INCLUDE NEW SPRAY-IN BEDLINER VALUES. a. Vehicles that have a Toyota genuine spray-in bedliner will need to have the Load Carrying Capacity Reduction recalculated, and a new label created. Note: Some vehicles may have a printed label, and some may have a hand written label. Example of deck w/ swing out box b. Determine bed length and type. c. Calculate the NEW weight reduction rating by adding together the values from the Label installed on B-pillar plus the weight for the corresponding Spray in bed in the table to the left (See image of example of deck with swing out box). Note: Reference New Values Chart Old Value + Spray In Bedliner Value = New Value Example: Old Label = 32 lbs/14 kg. Bed Length from Table for 6.5’ = 22.7 lbs/10.2 kg New Hand Written Label: 54.7 lbs/24.2 kg d. Handwrite the NEW calculated weight reduction values onto a blank label. e. Clean the surface of the original label with a dry cloth. f. Apply the new revised label for your VIN directly over the top of the original label and ensure only new label value can be read. g. Confirm the label is properly adhered. PROCESS FOR VEHICLES ORIGINALLY DISTRIBUTED WITH LABEL THAT DOES NOT HAVE WEIGHT VALUES a. Some vehicles originally distributed by Southeast Toyota Distributors (SET) may have an original label like the one in the image to the left. In this case, dealers will need to determine the weight of all accessories applied by SET in order to create the NEW label. b. There is a SET Calculated Vehicle weight matrix located in Appendix C which is determined by VIN. c. Hold “ctrl” button and “F” button at the same time to pull up the Find box and enter the VIN and select next to pull up the corresponding VIN weight information in Appendix C. FIND FUNCTION BOX Note: You must use the entire VIN for this search. Toyota Provided Label NEW LABEL d. Using the SET Calculated Vehicle weight for your corresponding VIN, calculate the NEW weight reduction rating by adding the values from SET Calculated Vehicle weight values Matrix in Appendix C and the New Value for the Spray in Bedliner.
