Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2022 Toyota
4Runner vehicles. The driver’s side high beam may be inoperable after the installation of accessory fog lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will install an updated wiring harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 11, 2022. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET’s number for this recall is SET21A.

Distributors, LLC (SET) filed a non-compliance recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiating a voluntary Safety Recall on certain 2022 4Runner vehicles with SET accessory 2in1 Fog/Accent lights.
Affected Vehicles:
2022 Model Year 4Runner Vehicles with SET installed LD4000 2in1 Fog/Accent light.
Condition:
Due to a wiring harness misapplication, when the SET supplied accessory fog lamps are installed, the driver side headlamp does not switch from low to high beam function when the high beam switch is activated. This condition does not affect the passenger side headlamp, or any of the vehicleโs marker lamps, turn signals or fog lamps.
Remedy:
At no cost to the customer, a Toyota
dealer will install an updated wiring harness for the SET accessory fog lights.
This following information is being provided to keep you informed of the filing and your degree of involvement.
Owner Letter Mailing Date
SET has completed remedy preparations and will begin to notify owners in February 2022.
SET makes a significant effort to obtain current customer name and address information when mailing owner letters. In the event your dealership receives a notice for a vehicle that was sold prior to the Safety Recall announcement, it is the dealershipโs responsibility to forward the owner letter to the customer who purchased the vehicle. 2. Inspection Reminder Mirror Hang Tags for Covered Vehicles
To easily recognize vehicles involved in this Safety Recall, each dealership should utilize Inspection Reminder Hang Tags. Please reference the VIN list provided to identify new vehicles in dealer inventory involved in this Safety Recall. Inside the vehicleโs glove box are stickers containing the VIN. Apply one of these stickers to the hang tag and install the hang tag in the vehicle. A sample copy of the Inspection Reminder Hang Tag has been included for your reference.
Pre-Owned Vehicles in Dealer Inventory
SET requests that dealers do not deliver any pre-owned vehicles in dealer inventory that is covered by a Safety Recall unless the defect has been remedied.

Chronology :
In November 2021 during a routine inspection at SETโs processing facilities, SET identified a single 2022 Toyota
4Runner with an inoperative driverโs side high-beam headlamp. SET immediately initiated an investigation. In December, SET determined that the inoperative high beam headlamp was due to a change in the 2022 Toyota
4Runner head lamp wiring harness which was incompatible with the prior yearโs SET accessory fog lamp wiring harness. On December 6th, 2021, SET determined that the condition created a noncompliance with FMVSS 108.

Due to a wiring harness misapplication, when the SET supplied accessory fog lamps are installed, the driver side headlamp does not switch from low to high beam function when the high beam switch is activated. Production Dates : SEP 20, 2021 – OCT 08, 2021 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : Pursuant to FMVSS 108 at least two high-beam lamps are required to be supplied in a light-duty vehicle. Due to a wiring harness misapplication, when the SET supplied accessory fog lamps are installed, the driver side headlamp does not switch from low to high beam function when the high beam switch is activated. This condition does not affect the passenger side headlamp, or any of the vehicleโs marker lamps, turn signals or fog lamps. FMVSS 1 : 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. 4Runner head lamp wiring harness which was incompatible with the prior yearโs SET accessory fog lamp wiring harness. On December 6th, 2021, SET determined that the condition created a noncompliance with FMVSS 108. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : At no cost to the customer, a Toyota
dealer will install an updated wiring harness for the SET accessory fog lights. All affected vehicles are under warranty and SET anticipates no reimbursement claims. The Owner Notification letter will include a contact number should an owner qualify for a reimbursement. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replacement accessory fog light wiring harness includes a circuit for the driverโs side head lamp high-beam light. The recalled wiring harness does not. Polk & Co. to obtain current owner mailing address data based on the VIN of each individual affected vehicle, and also with a third party service provider to print and mail the owner notification letters and labels to owners of affected vehicles.
